QuestionWe have a palm tree (I think is a Med. Fan) that "planted itself" via seed about 10 yers ago. Now it's bigger than my 2 story house. It's trmmed and straight and green and pretty. PROBLEM: There are a lot of roots showing at the base. DOES THIS INDCATE THAT IT MIGHT FALL OVER?
It's close to my house nd neighbor's driveway.
Can I just add some soil and mulch to the area?
AnswerHi Kath, no don't cover those roots! thats the flare and its perfectly normal for the roots to be showing; Palms outer tissue often curls up at the bottom (another common question I receive..)which is also a common phenomenon. That Palm is quite sturdy in the ground, and it would take a Hurricane to knock it down. Nick
