pygmy palm transplant

Question

Transplanted Pygmy Pal
I recently transplanted 2 pygmy palms, both bought in container from store. I had one palm indoors and the other outdoors. Before transplanting palms the one that was indoors fonds started going to faded green, I assume due to not enough light. I transplanted both in larger pots, well draining soil with perlite added. The outdoor palm is still doing very well, the palm that WAS indoors has still not come back (it too is outside now), I transplanted it leaving the fonds intact, should i cut off these fonds?
All fonds on this palm are the faded green. Thank you

Answer
Hi Sherri, you didn't mention where you are located (climate zone) , Pygmy Dates are sub-tropical palms and need to be outside in direct Sun; They are not for containers either, they need root space and all but the largest of containers can't provide this. The image you provided (and I appreciate it!, I wish more people would provide me with these.) shows an extremely stressed Palm that is probably beyond help at this point, it looks like the root system has been compromised. The other one, albeit it looks healthy to you,is also stressed, hence the light green color to the fronds; they need to be in the ground or much, much larger containers. Nick
