Madagascar palm

Question
QUESTION: MY Madagascar palm roots seem to have dry up its not dead but some Leaves
are truning black. I do not wount to do any more damage how can I save this
plant. HELP

ANSWER: Hi Charles, albeit they don't need much water, (they store water in their system.), they do need it occasionally, you did not mention how much water you give it, but if you give it too much, it will let you know by dropping fronds. Mine develops black fronds occasionally and even has shed most of its leaves at one point, but the center is the key, and as long as it is not showing any rot or blackness then it should be fine. I don't really do anything to mine, except watch that it doesn't get too much water (from Mother Nature), its in a large container, and if it looks like we are going to get a serious storm, I move it under cover. QUESTION: what isoccasionally once a week or every two weeks  my palm is in a 13 in pot.

Answer
I will be honest with you Charles, I wet the soil on mine (about a quart of water) , every week, and thats it, and it does just fine; Once a year I give it a cup of Palm fertilizer. I would move it into a larger pot if you want it to get bigger however, it will do fine in the one you have it in, but it will stunt and grow only as big as the container allows it, and that would probably be about 4 feet, in the ground they can get quite large, but the nice thing is you can contain their size by the size of the container, they don't seem to mind being pot bound.
