QuestionI planted last summer 2 hibiscus of the same stock, planted at the same
time, same soil, same conditions, in a large, deep shared planter box. One is
thriving. The other's leaves turned yellow and the stems die. I cut it all back
to the trunk and continue the care, but no change for 2-3 months. I'm in
Calif where warm weather starts blooms in late February. Any advice to me
as to giving it more time, or is it time to dig it up?
AnswerHi Patricia, when you say a shared box, it tells me that one of the root systems may have taken the Lions share of nutrients and space at the expense of the other; try moving the declining one to its own area and see if it improves. Hibiscus can be very difficult to grow if conditions are not right and yellowing leaves are the first sign of it. Nick
