QuestionI planted a palm plant in my outdoor garden last Thursday May 21. I water it daily, but now the leaves are turning brown. Living in central Jersey, I did not think the palm would live past the summer. How do I care for it and what do I do about the brown leaves?
AnswerHi Adele, Palms are a Tropical plant by nature, and they need high humidity, heat and tropical rains to prosper; New Jersey is a tough (if not impossible..) place to get a Palm to grow , unless in a climate controlled greenhouse. I don't know the type of Palm you have, but in general, it probably is suffering from a lack of humidity (hence the brown fronds..), and this may or may not improve as the Summer progresses, but I have to be frank with you, as the Fall approaches and the colder nights prevail, your Palm is destined to a period of decline and eventual death.Certain Palms can be grown indoors up North, but the variety is limited, but outside, it is a real tall order Adele.
