QuestionAn animal has been gnawing the base of our banana tree plant. It is about 4 feet high (not counting the leaves). We live on a farm, not an urban area in north central Alabama with a multitude of squirrels, rabbits, deer, etc. What do you suggest we do to deter whatever animal is doing this damage?
AnswerHi Dianne, circle the bottom of the pseudostem (trunk) with some chicken wire, this is the about the only thing you can do to deter gnawing pests; I have used this successfully with many of my fruit trees, and it worked just fine, plus its cheap. Nick
