QuestionHi from Hawaii, Nick
Two years ago I planted one "baby" in the fenced corner of my small garden. Now, I have the wooden fences on both neighbors' sides pushed over by the expanding system - is there an easier way than my current method of slowly and painfully disecting the stumps down to the roots with a serrated bread knife? This may sound silly, but there is basically no space to weild a machete, ax etc., as the area is fenced on two sides and the new shoot I want to let grow for harvest partially blocks a third side.

AnswerHi Susanne, there is no easy way to remove Banana Corms (underground root rhizome.), you really need to dig the Corms up with a long blades spade, or at least compromise it by dissecting it piece by piece. The only other way is by using a heavy duty vegetation drench, (which I don't recommend because of the damage it can do to any roots it contacts), and then just letting the Corm rot away. Nick
