QuestionWe live in Central Florida and have a potted Desert Rose on a table on our patio. We fertilized it with fish fertilizer and last night a raccoon invaded it. What can we do to discourage the raccoon from going after the plant when we fertilize it with fish emulsion? We were thinking about spraying the pot and table with ammonia. We would not spray the plant. Do you have any other ideas? If not would this process be ok?
AnswerHi Rosalee, Raccoons are one of the toughest animals to deter, but also, I wouldn't use the emulsion on a Desert Rose, rather I would use half strength soluble like Miracle grow or Peters, and then only once a month; Desert Roses need very little water, they store what they need in their substance, so once a month watering with half strength soluble will suffice for the plant and not be attractive to the coon.
