QuestionI have had a Dwarf Patio Orange Tree for about 6 years and a Meyers Lemon for 2 years. I live in upstate New York. In the winters, on above 40 degree days, I usually put them outside to get some sun. I find they don't loose as many leaves in the winter when I do this. Well about a month ago I forgot about them and left them out for the night. The temperature dropped down to about 28. When I brought them in they dropped all their leaves and fruit. The branches are very brittle and some break off every time I bring them in and out of the house. I have been watering them and putting them outside hoping they will comeback. But I have not seen any sign of life. Will they come back? If so how long will it take? Thanks for any help and/or advise you can give.
AnswerHi Diane, scratch the bark at soil level, if it is brown, then your trees are indeed dead; if the bark shows green , then they are still viable and need to be given more time. Citrus can't take temps that cold, so I am inclined to think the worse. Nick
