QuestionJust so you know, I had to resort back to an old email from expert Nick McCann in order to ask this question. I don't know if it was me or not but, I had so much trouble trying to get the question box I finally stopped yesterday.
Just purchased a Peace Lily and plastic/resin container without drainage holes. Read about these plants needing drainage after the fact. Could I just plant the garden pot/lily in this container, perhaps with a pebble bottom? Or would it be better to start with a pebble bottom and remove Spathiphyllum from gardening pot and plant in my potting soil? Maybe I need to return this container or make holes in the bottom?
Thank you in advance for your insight.

AnswerHi Sherri, I am glad you were able to get to me, I don't know about the technical aspect of getting here, but anyway, I would line the bottom of the resin container with about 2 inches of gravel or pebbles, but do not leave the Lily in the "Nursery container" it came in, because they are only mean to stay in these containers on a temporary basis, and need to be changed out into a quality potting mix with a new and larger permanent pot; this new pot will be big enough to fit comfortably into the resin container (the one without holes) and not show , kinda like a hand in a glove. Basically, line the resin container, seat the new pot, (filled to within 2 inches of the rim), on top of the pebble or gravel lining and mulch the top inch of the new pot to keep the soil moisture even, so it doesn't dry to too quickly. Just a quick tip on your Lily, low light and keep it moist! Biggest problem with them is letting them dry out, they love water and low light situations, no sunny window , dappled shade if outside and fertilize in about a month with a soluble, like Miracle Grow or Peters. Good luck Sherri!...Nick
