Robilini Palms

Question
I have a huge triple Robilini Palm that was burned pretty badly from the cold snaps this winter.  There is still green in the core of the plant.  I did take off all of the brown fronds but not much left with the exception of the core.  It looks really bad.  What next, do I fertilize heavily and what do you recommend as the best fertilizer to make it grow back in?  I was really sad to see how bad they look now since we had to cut them back. They were very majestic looking.

Answer
Hi Melanie, I know, I can empathize with you, I too had extensive cold damage, all you can do at this point is make sure your palm is adequately irrigated, fertilizing lightly with a well balanced "Palm Fertilizer" would help too, otherwise, just sit back and hope Mother Nature can nurture your palm through this critical period. If you gently pull at the center spear and it holds firm, then you have a good chance of it being fine, what you don't want to happen is it pulling out and separating, leaving nothing left, then the palm is gone. Eventually, if the palm is still viable, that center section will begin to unfold new, healthy growth. Nick
