QuestionWe just had several mature Sago Palms transplanted - how do we keep them alive?
AnswerHi Cherie, providing they were transplanted properly, they are very easy to maintain; for the first couple of weeks they will need to be watered every other day so the roots don't dry out. You didn't mention where you are located, this is very important, for if its Florida, you will need to keep an eye out for the Aucalaspis Scale (insect), it loves Sagos and if not controlled, will kill them. Normally I would recommend watering every day for 2 weeks, but being winter, you don't want to rot the roots because of the cold soil at night. Once they are established you can pretty much let mother nature take over the irrigation, but they should be fertilized with a well balanced Palm fertilizer 3 times a year. Nick
