QuestionHi Nick, This is my first year at this homme and we have several 8-9 ft tall banana palms near the house, we have had several below freezing temp nites and they are very brown and dead looking - not a green spot anywhere I can see-- should I cut them off to the ground and hope they come back ? Do they come back after dying off like that?
We live on Mississippi gulf coast near the Pearl River
AnswerHi Laurie, yes, cut them back to the ground and mulch them over, new growth will develop from the ground when the weather warms up; the crown was hit by the freeze, but the underground corm should still be viable, and I emphasize "should"...if it is frozen too, then it won't. Nick
