Question
My Golden cane palm has 9 trunks about 6 metres high and has no foliage or any suckers at the base.  Is there anything we can do to encourage suckering as I was hoping new growth would sprout from the base.  It is at least 10 years old but I have seen older ones that mine with new growth.  Thank you for your help.

Hi Liss, you can't really force the matter, all you can do is keep it healthy, maintain a  mulch covering (don't contact it to the trunk, keep it back a foot) around the base and feed it 3 times a year with a well balanced palm fertilizer; as long as it is healthy and shows no signs of stress then all you can do is wait and hope.
