Majest Palm Mold
I bought a Majesty Palm from a local home store roughly 6 months ago. We live in SC where palms are abundant so I have it outside on our screened in porch. The palm receives mostly morning light but the porch stays bright all day long. In the past month the palm has developed a white fuzzy mold at the base and the mold is also covering some of the surrounding soil. I tried wiping it off a few weeks ago thinking it was just due to a moist and humid season. It grew back. In addition, I haven't seen any new growth on this palm since I bought it 6 months ago. Is this normal? This is my first palm and I'm not sure how to trouble shoot this problem. Thanks. Kylee
AnswerHi Kylee its a fungus spore in the soil, and is probably innocuous, but just to be on the safe side I would change out the soil, thats where the spores are and if you remove them your problem will be solved. When you change it out, and plan to use the same pot then clean it out with bleach before adding new soil. Nick
