Hi Irma, one of the easiest plants to care for, that swelled bottom is a reservoir for water, so very little water is needed for this plant; Fertilize it with a well balanced palm fertilizer once every 3 months (amount depends on size) and water only when the soil is completely dry, being careful that it has good drainage. Make sure it gets ample sunlight (at least 6 hours for optimum growing). Thats about all you need worry about, it is a very resilient plant and is not problematic in any respect. Nick
