QuestionI have a small lemon and orange tree, the lemon tree will set fruit each year and yield about 6 to 8 lemons, but the orange tree will set lots of oranges but they fall off when they get to be about the size of a pencil eraser. Can you tell me what is wrong? I live in up state SC and bring the trees inside when frost comes.
AnswerHi Jerry, when fruit forms and falls off at that stage it is a sure sign of poor pollination; I don't know the variety, but it obviously needs a certain cross pollinator, and there doesn't seem to be one in the vicinity. Certain Citrus need certain other Citrus for cross pollination, where othere, particulary Lemons and Limes, can be cross pollinated by just about any Citrus. Nick
