QuestionHi Nick,
We live in Clearwater Florida where it's pretty warm all year. We purchased a pair of Cortons about 3 feet tall about 1 month ago. We transplanted them into a larger pot and have them outside. They get direct sunlight for 6-8 hours a day and we have been watering them about once a week when the top soil is dry for about an inch or so. We've been watering until the water runs out of the bottom of the pot. About 2 weeks ago, one of them began dropping the top (green) leaves, fairly significantly. For the last 3-4 days, the other one has been dropping leaves as well.
We've recently had a "cold spell" where the temps been dropping into the hi 40's and low 50's at night with 60-65 in the daytime.
What are we doing wrong and how can we correct it?
Thanks for your help!
AnswerHi Eric, Your Crotons are going through a readjustment period with the change of weather; You should see new growth appear, but they won't thrive until the warmer months come back, but they will be fine. Back off on the watering now, with the cooler nights, so as not to encourage fungal problems and water only when the drainage holes begin to show dryness. My Crown of Thorns are doing the same, and they to will adjust and long for the return of our hot muggy summers. Nick
