QuestionI live a little south of Nashville and have a very large banana plant that was purchased in Fl. It is 2 yrs. old. We dug up and stored the bulb for winter last year and re-planted in March. It is much too large to remove. Our winters are generally pretty mild but cold enough to kill back all foliage but not freeze the bulb. What is the best method for caring for it this winter, it is so beautiful I hate to lose it. Thanks
AnswerHi Dianne, the corm will survive your rather mild winter if it is mulched over heavily, as you stated, the crown will burn back to soil level during your first freeze, or even heaavy frost, this is fine; the corms survival is the key here and if mulched, it should prevent the soil enveloping it from freezing,...:)
