Questioni got a cane yucca at a garage sail that had been sitting in a 5-gal. bucket of stagnate water. I repotted it and it was doing very well and there was a lot of new growth on top...now that the older leaves have dried and come off, the new growth appears very pale, as well as the trunks. Is this a sign of a lack in nitrogen? Is there a fertilizer that would help? I keep I live in Denver and keep it in indirect bright light near a west facing window...it looks so sad, and i can't seem to find a remedy! any ideas on what my plant might be telling me?
AnswerHi Sara, it sounds like it is suffering from rot, from the water it was sitting in; the roots were probably stressed and damaged from sitting in that water so long. I would put it in direct light for now, and try to let it dry out, they are very drought resistant and too much water will definitely damage them. Hopefully it will repair itself, for there isn't anything you can do at this point; fertilizing it won't help, because the roots need to repair themselves first. Nick
