Question
I bought a 7' Yucca Palm tree from Home Depot in June 2008, put it in a larger pot and placed it on my back porch. How can I winterize it and keep it on the porch?- I live in Moyock, NC.

Hi Carol, you need to make sure the container contents doesn't freeze, so mulch the surface with a 3 inch layer of covering (any type of bagged mulch will do), and tuck it as close to your house as possible to get the most of any heat transpiring from the house; that is about all you can do if you are keeping it on an unheated porch for the winter. During the evening hours, throw a light blanket over it also, this will help keep heat contained around the plant itself, then remove it during the day , so it gets sufficient light. Nick
