QuestionI recently purchased a beautiful Gardenia tree with many blossoms...until I got it home and into my new greenhouse(GH). It was outside in full sun at the garden center but after a few days in the GH the open blossoms turned yellow and fell off, some of the leaves yellowed and fell and then a dozen of the unopened buds fell off as well. The temperature inside the GH ranges from 65 to 90 F and the humidity is around 60-70%. It seems obvious that the plant liked it better outside but I want to be sure that the environment is the problem...and if so when should I move back inside as we live in the Boston, Massachusset's area Please advise????
I appreciate your help, Ed Halsted
AnswerHey Ed, Bostons my old stomping grounds:)...sounds definitely like an environemtal reaction, plants that are purchased from an open nursery and moved either inside or into a green house as in your case will often show stress in this manner; it will eventually adjust to the change and new growth should appear as it balances out the change. Make sure you are doing everything else by the book, not too much water, watch for insects and don't fertilize until it adjusts and shows new growth. Nick
