QuestionQUESTION: Hi, I stared my jacaranda tree from a seed 10 years ago.
It is huge probably 20' high but no flowers yet....can you tell me anything about this? I know that the fruit was black, flat and almost round like a home made cookie (2")
and the seeds inside were flat almost transparent....
Thanks very much
ANSWER: Hi Mar, the seeds are flat and mahogany colored, I am assuming you are sure you have grown a "jacaranda"; it should have loose pinnate leaves and during the winter be mostly bare, and the seeds hang on the tree for months before dropping, is this the tree you have grown? follow up and let me know. Nick

QUESTION: Hi Nick, yes it is just as you described !!...the seeds are mahogany colored flat with rounded border. I have seen one jacaranda tree similar to mine but with smaller leaves, flatter and less rounded seeds and not as dark in color as mine. This one flowers every year..beautiful fragrant purple/blue flowers.....Any idea why mine is not flowering yet? thanks very much
AnswerHi Mar, I researched any reason why your Jacaranda isn't blooming and can find no viable reason for it; one forum discussed blooming problems, but nobody could give any concrete answer to why, except one "expert" on Jacarandas said a secret to encourage an otherwise healthy jacaranda to bloom is to prune some of the branches back, but a tree of your magnitude I would leave to a trained Aborist (to ensure its done correctly). I wish I could wave a magic wand when any of my questioners had a problem, but unfortunately I don't have all the answers. Nick
