Question6 weeks ago I planted 8 King palms - 6' tall - They get full sun. Several of the leaves are turning brown and dieing. I am told if they were grown in shade that this can happen and I should just cut off the dead leaves. Is that correct? I drip water 15 minutes every day. They don't look real green, sort of sickly. What's up? We live in Marin County north of San Francisco. Thanks for the help.
AnswerHi Trip, many palms go through a transplant shock when first planted, its the existing fronds that will show these signs (as are yours), its the emerging new fronds that you want to look lush, if they unravel and are brown and unhealthy also, then you have a problem to address; I hope you planted them at the same level that they were in the containers and did not put anything like mulch or stone right up to the trunk; I also hope you planted them with a berm around them so the water stays on the rootball. Watch and wait at this stage is the game plan, a few brown fronds (especially lower ones) is nothing to be overly concerned about, as long as they don't all brown out quickly. Nick
