QuestionHow do I take cuttings from the bougainvillea..put it in water and after it grows roots, plant it? Where do I cut it off the tree/bush? Thank you in advance...
AnswerHi Dee, take firm tip cuttings (3 inch) dip them in a rooting hormone and then place them in a container of damp rooting sand with a tray of water under the container, it usually takes about 2-3 months to develop rooted plants, keep the container in a dappled shady area during the day and if the nights are still cooler where you are, move them in at night. Another method is to bend (not break) a lower branch down and scrape a 3 inch area down to the cambium layer and bury that area in the ground right next to the mother (still connected), this works good without the bother of containers, medium, water etc. Either method will give you good results, then just remove the whole root ball, intact and plant where you want.
