Questionour pygmy palm was in touch with and unusual cold snap. when frost time was completely over i cut off the brown fronds. my friend thinks i should cut it completely remove all the fronds , will this send the palm into more shock?
AnswerHi ice, your friend couldn't be more wrong, the palm relies on its fronds for photosynthesis (eating); the only fronds on a palm that need to be removed are the totally brown ones, any that are even slightly green need to be left intact,. Mother Nature will determine if this palm will make it or not at this point; there is nothing you can do except wait and watch, irrigate it sparingly, because if its stressed, it will take awhile before the roots are functioning properly.
