QuestionI have a banana tree that fruited last year and this year the same stalk is not leafing out as the rest of the bunch. Does this need to be cut off? if so, at ground level or taking the root also?
Thanks
AnswerHi Sharon, that particular stock needs to be cut back to ground level; the ensuing stalks will each in turn produce a bunch. Picture a large potato under the ground, this is called the corm and all the growth (stalks) transpires from it; as each produces they are in turn also cut back after harvest. The corm is perpetual and will continue to send out plants, the more fertilizer and water the better the growth. Nick:)
