Zebra Plant

Question
My sister has basically killed her Zebra plant.  All of the limbs have had to be cut off.  I believe that she kept it in it's small pot for too long and then over watered it.  The leaves were browning and then falling off as soon as the next set started to emerge.  She brought the plant home from work and I repotted it in a bigger pot.  It did ok for a while but then the limbs started to rot and no more leaves would sprot from them.  I cut the limbs off and the main stem started to grow larger leaves than before.  Now they are starting to brown.  How can I revive this plant.  It's stem is so tall now and it looks rediculous with only two leaves on the top.  I've looked into cutting it via propagation but I've never done it and not sure I have the right directions.  Please help.

Answer
Hi Desiree, hmm..sounds like its roots have been damaged from too much irrigation, hence the inability to maintain growth; I'm inclined to say its not going to recover completely. Keep in mind that they drop leaves if over or underwatered, but overwatering is what damages the rootball; they also go through a rest period in winter where you cut irrigation way back! The only thing at this point is to take a tip cutting, (I guess the only place is the top from what you say) I would try to take the top and using rooting hormone, dip it and put it in some moist vermiculite; the base may or may not regenerate growth. Nick
