QuestionCould you suggest some indoor palms that would be 6 to 8 feet tall and can thrive with little to no sunlight? Should I use some kind of plant lighting and what kind? And how frequently should they be watered? What type of potting soil/additives? Thank you!
AnswerHi Sue, ok, a good choice would be a "Majesty Palm", they like dappled shade in their natural habitat,, and are the choice of indoor decorators; They will come in a nursery container, which needs to be changed out (a mistake many people make is they don't) then a larger, decorative container is used with 2 inches of drainage pebbles lining the bottom, then a good quality potting soil from there up to about 3 inches from the rim, finished with a surface of marble or river rock for appearance. Majestys require fertilizing about once every 3 months with a slow release, well balanced palm fertilizer with all the macro and micro nutrients; Mist the leaves frequently to deter spider mites (the bane of indoor plants) and water well but let dry out between waterings, and make sure you keep checking the drainage tray at the bottom of the pot to make sure its kept devoid of standing water. good luck, regards, Nick
