Transplant large plumeria san diego

Question
My Dad just gave me a 10' plus plumeria from his yard.  We dug  it out and
had to cut much of the transvers roots to get it. They were wound around and
through his sprinklers.   I would like to transplant it in our yard that has a lot
of decomposed granite in it. it will receive tons of sun and will reach summer
temp's regularly in the 90's.  Will this work?  How big should the hole be?
Should I treat it like a cutting?  Plant what's left of the root ball?  What mix
should I use around it?   Thank You so much.

Answer
Hi Greg, I would go ahead and plant the rootball, it should be fine, but I would also take a few 7-10 inch cuttings and put them in a light soil mixture and keep them in a shady area with waterings between drying out for extra plants (they should take about 2 weeks to put out some roots) Plant the mother in a hole twice the diameter of the rootball and stake it so it doesn't  topple on you. Full sun is fine and 90 degrees is also, keep in mind that they are desiduous and will lose their leaves in winter. regards Nick
