boganvilla

Question
I have turned my garage into a winter house for my many plants. they get full spectrum light and I have a contolled temp and humidity.
I heard you can take and proagate bouganvilla in teh winter. Someone said only the first years growth.
Could you clarify this for me.
Thank you in advance,
Michael

Answer
Hi Mike, tip cuttings are best, what I do though is take an existing low lying branch and
"bruise" it, that is scrape the bark and then bury that portion (still attached to the plant) in the soil right by it; it will take several months this time of year, but eventually that will send out roots and then you simply dig it up and cut it off from the mother and you have your new plant! The traditional way though (but more care and work) is to take a tip cutting (around 4inch) and treat the end with a rooting hormone, put it in damp vermiculite and keep it in a shady area and mist the crown frequently and wait.
