QuestionWhen cutting back a banana tree for winter , How low should I cut down the stalk?
AnswerHey Paul, I'm assuming you don't expect to get fruit from it and you are growing it just for the tropical ambiance, that said, you can cut it back to just above the ground and it will begin to grow a new pseudostem out of the center of the cut; a new plant will continue to attempt to grow until fruit is borne (if ever)at which point the plant will die on its own accord or be cut down by you and it will not regrow. New plants (pups) will grow from the underground corm (root system) thereby perpetuating the species. Nick
