it is getting cold here in greenville,s.c.what exactly do i need to do to both my bushes-plants-- to get them ready for  freezing temps?

Hi Judy, you have choices, you can try to cover them with heavy mulch or straw, or prune them back and lift them and put them in a large container (whiskey barrel etc.) for the winter, moving them into a protected area, (garage, shed etc.)be innovative, they key here is to prevent the rootball from freezing, and frost from harming the foliage.
