Pigme Date Palm

Question
I have a Pigme Date Palm that we planted in our backyard planter in Huntington Beach, CA.  The palm is completely dead...dried up, no green.  Is there any way to bring it back to life?  Or do I need to throw it out and start over?
Any specific type of soil I should plant with tropical plants?

Answer
Hi Sabrina, if the crown is completely brown then the palm is in fact, dead; sometimes if the new frond immerging shows green, there is a chance, but if it too is brown, then you will be able to easily pull it from the ground (something you wouldn't normally be able to do). The main thing to remember when planting any plant in a container is to put about 2 inches of drainage medium at the bottom (pea stone, gravel etc.) then use a well balanced potting soil and let it dry between waterings.
