Dying Palm Trees

Question
QUESTION: Hi,I'm a janitor for our church and we have about 5 palm trees. We've had them for about 4-8 months (I know thats a pretty broad date range but they actualy got them when I was in college in another state) Anyways, I was told to water them once a week but over the summer they have started dying. They are potted in just regular potting soil in pots that have a draining system. They are kept in our sanctuary and they don't get very much sunlight at all. They've done fine so far and I don't think the amount of sunlight they have gotten has changed. Any ideas as to why they are dying? I've read about them needing more sandy soil, being watered to much, insects that can kill them, to little sunlight, to litle of fertilizer? I realize you don't have a whole lot on information to go on but any informatio about them in general would be apreciated.

ANSWER: Scott, I really need to know what kind of palms they are, if you can find this out, it would help a lot....I am inclined to think they are Majesty's

QUESTION: Hi, your inclination was correct. I found out today that they are Majesty's

Answer
Check that they aren't potbound, potted palms (or plants in general) need to be repotted periodically, the soil becomes impacted and just plain used up, as the palm grows its root system begins to fill out the container and soon a rootbound plant results; I would say repot them into bigger containers and make sure there is some sort of gravel lining the bottom for help in keeping water from rotting the roots.
