Red Plumeria

Question
Hi! I live in Central CA where we have triple digit summers and 20-degree winters. I planted a Red Plumeria cutting about 2 months ago and it started to grow some leaves and what looked like flower buds at the center. It used to be in the backyard where it received morning sun. I moved it to the front where sunlight is only about 30 the whole day or maybe about 2 hours. I noticed that the flower buds fell off and the leaves are starting to curl and turn brown. I watered it once a day and I think this is too much. I am hoping it is not too late to save this plant. I am still looking forward to seeing it bloom. Do I need to repot so that it gets dry soil? Thanks!

Answer
Jo, new plumeria cuttings need to be kept somewhat dry, if they are watered too much, the end rots and the plant will die; the usual method, is to put the cutting into a light soil and keep it in a dappled shady area until it really takes hold, then keep it lightly watered (they don;t require fertilizing). Once it is established, full sun is the key...Nick
