QuestionHi! I own a 5 year old tropical hibiscus plant (Hibiscus rosa sinensis) . It is an indoor plant (we live in MA) & against my wishes my wife puts it outside in the summer (not this year, thou). Last year when she put it in the yard, she "trimmed it." The problem was that my plant bloomed from October-May. After the trimmed it, it has not bloomed again. Is there something I can do to have it bloom again?
AnswerHi Erv, The main observation is that its growing in a healthy manner; if so, then you just need to be patient, the blooms will rematerialize. Fertilize it with a low nitrogen, high phosphorous granular to encourage blooms and keep the leaves misted, to discourage spider mites. Hibiscus can be temperamental, if yellow leaves appear, its just a normal reaction to environmental changes, or too much/too little water; stay the course, you should see new buds form before long.
