QuestionI put two banana trees next to my pond last year that look great. The problem, as expected, is that I have two more sprouting up this year. The question is how can I remove them and keep all four alive? I live in southeast Texas.
AnswerBrian, the two new ones are the future fruit bearers; if you remove them to relocate, thats fine, another will sprout up from the original mother. I would leave them however, so you don;t interrupt their growth; then I would remove the second one that pops up (and it will),but not until it has developed at least two leaves of its own. The process is to take a long bladed shovel and cut directly down the psuedostem (trunk) of the mother and break it off from her then simply dig it up and relocate. Bananas are my favorite plants, so if you need any more info on them then feel free to follow=up.. Nick
