coffee, and avacados

Question
So, kind of an unconventional question I guess, but is there any way to grow either a coffee tree, or an avacado tree both in Canada, and then because of the climate, indoors?  I'm assuming both will not grow outside since they're subtropical/tropical plants, but will either grow, even on a small scale indoors?  I've begun to grow apple trees from seeds in an apple I ate, and was toying with the idea of trying some of my other favourite things.  Just for fun, and for maybe the possibility of down the road getting some fruit yield.  Is there any way to do this, and if so, would I have to get special seeds, or could I begin growing seeds from fruits that I eat?  Thanks a lot.

Answer
Andrea, you can, but I guarantee you won't attain any fruit, at least from the Avocado; a greenhouse would be nice, and would allow you to at least maintain a nice specimen (albeit stunted). I have grown (when I was up north) avocados from seed, but they begin to fail when they have achieved a 3-4 foot height, but this was without the use of a greenhouse. The coffee tree is doable however, but I really can't tell you if you will attain beans from it, I'm inclined to think not, because as you stated, they do need the proper climate and conditions...good luck though and have fun trying!
