Tropical Plant in Office

Question
My husband gave me a plant on Valentine's Day that he got from a florist.  The florist didn't tell him the name of the plant but told him it would live well under the light inside an office.  He was also told to water it in the middle of the plant.  The plant is mostly green with leaves going out on all sides, all the way up the plant.  In the middle is a bright red, feather/arrow shaped flower?  The flower part has since began to dry up but is still attached.  The green leaves are still doing fine and there are three new shoots that have come out the sides of the plant.  I am wondering what type of plant this is.  Thanks.

Answer
Susan, it sounds like a cockscomb (celosia) but without seeing it I can't be sure; the reason he was told to water it in the middle, was so the root ball got irrigated, many people tend to water to close to the sides of a pot and the water runs down the side and out the holes in the bottom. The fact that the flower has faded, is no problem, you are getting new growth and that means the plant is doing well. Nick
