QuestionHello, I live in a condo in FL and love the look of tropical palms indoors. I
have had a ton of bad luck with majesty palms. Upon research i found
out that they are a very bad choice indoors. Can you recommend
something similar in size and height that is a good choice to grow
indoors. Thank you so much for your time.
Tim
AnswerHi Tim! Majesty's are the preferred indoor palm but I agree, they can be a problem; I would recomend a Lady Palm, they are slow growers, and a little more expensive, but have a nice gracefulness to them. Arecas are another good choice (very resilient), and more resemble a Majesty. The main problem with growing palms indoors is the lack of moisture contacting the fronds; palms love a moist environment, so misting them frequently will help them maintain their vibrance and avoid indoor pests like mites (a bane of indoor palms), make sure they get ample light and moderate watering, keeping in mind that the surface moistness isn't necessarily a good indication of the root balls moisture level; check the drainage holes in the pot for the proper moisture level, which should be damp, not wet; avoid over fertilizing, for this puts excessive salt in the soil(another drawback of growing palms in pots). good luck, and when you do get one, please contact me again for advice...Nick
