QuestionHow much sun does ginger like or need? This is from Wal-Mart bought nodes and every one has sprouted and is up several inches to a couple of feet high. We seem to be seeing it growing away from the light, it is only getting about 3 hours of bright direct or almost direct sunshine a day now. How tall can we expect it to get?
Thanks!
AnswerSusan, Ginger doesnt like too much direct sun (especially afternoon); it grows naturally under a canopy and does quite well in a shady envionment. I have a large clump on my east side where the morning sun briefly hits it (about 2 hours) and then because of its proximity to my house it is shaded by the house and sofet. You can expect your ginger to get no higher then 3 feet, but it will naturally produce suckers/side growth from the root system which can be subsequently excised and planted elsewhere, simply section it of from the corm with a shovel and replant. good luck..Nick
