Question -
I bought this plant at a good price, it was the last one and ofcourse did not come with the insert telling me what kind of plant or how to care for it. I am not sure if you would be able to identify it by my description- it has three bark-like stems with long, green and yellow leaves blooming out of each. It grows off the base of the stems and starts off to the side with it's leaves. The plant had a few brown spots on it when I bought it, I thought that they would go away with plenty of sun (full sun) and water. I have used Miracle Grow on it every two weeks to try to give it a pep. Please help! What kind of plant is this and what am I doing wrong?
Answer -
I don't know what kind of plant it is but I think I can help.
If the plant is tropical and it sounds like it is...no full sun. They need bright indirect light. Under a shade tree is good or in a bright window in your home where it does not get full sun for more than a couple of hours.
Next no miracle grow. This stuff is actually really bad for plants in the long term. Osmocote is a good way to go if you want a chemical fertlizer. IF you don't want a chemical fertlizer I recommend mixing your soil with compost and manure then water with fish emulsion every couple of weeks.
If your baby does not snap out of it with the above advise please contact me again and I am sure we can figure this out.
Happy growing

AnswerTry doing a tropical plant search on the web. You should be able to id it to some degree there. It is very hard to find the exact type of plants this way but it is worth a shot.
Not only is Miracle Grow bad for the plants it is also highly toxic to the enviornment. It causes our soils to be very very very nutrient poor and kills beneficial bugs and bacteria. I recommend staying clear of any chemical fertlizers if possible but this one for sure.
