AnswerHi Sunny,
Yes dahlia can be grown in central Florida. The best time to plant would be early spring after the danger of frost has past, assuming you have frost in your area. Dahlias require rich soils so add plenty of compost. Depending on the type you grow, dahlias can reach up to several feet tall. If you grow the larger ones you will need to stake them. All dahlias require at least a half day of sun in order to do well. You can fertilize throughout the growing season with a 15-30-15 (Miracle-Gro)or similar. Dahlias will likely overwinter in your area and will not need to be dug up in the fall. When they start looking ratty in the fall or when the frost gets them-whichever comes first- cut them down to the ground. They should resprout again in early spring and you can start the cycle all over again.
