QuestionI have a few nursery bought cyclamins that seed pretty heavy.I have tried to germinate the seeds several times with no luck, although I think I've got the conditions right. Is it possible that store bought cyclamin produce sterile seeds?
AnswerHi Scott,
It is possible that your seeds are not ripe enough to germinate, the should be dark colored. If they are green they're not ripe yet. Cyclamen need complete darkness in order to germinate, bright light will inhibit growth. Cyclamen germinate best at temperatures between 55 and 65 degrees. Excessive heat will also inhibit germination. Lastly, cyclamen can take up to a year to sprout although most don't take that long. Quite frankly it's easier to just go out and buy a mature plant.
