QuestionHello,
Someone offered me a Beaucarnea plant for Christmas. It's 1foot2inches (40cm) high with a trunk of 15cm. I would like to know if I have to change the pot (the pot is 6cm high). In that case, what sort of pot should I take?
Thank you in advance
Julie (a French girl)
AnswerHello Julie,
Beaucarnea like rather small pots. You say yours in a pot that is 6cm high but more importantly I would need to know how wide the pot is. Beaucarnea have large bulbous stems so if it is currently about 15cm thick, I would transplant to a pot that is about 20cm wide. I'm sorry but I am from the U.S. and I am not familiar with the specific pot sizes that may be available where you are (France?). In the U.S. this would equivalent to an 8 inch pot. I would use a terra-cotta (clay) pot for transplanting. Also, make sure your soil is well draining and doesn't stay wet for long periods of time. Beaucarnea like to be on the dry side and they also like the sun.
I hope this information was of help to you.
