unusual plant name?

Question
Actually I have two questions.
1. We have a plant that we have had for years that bears a tropical fruit that is very good.  My problem is.....  We got the seed from my in-laws who are Cuban, and they call the plant "Anon", but I have no idea what it is called in English?  People have asked me and I never know.  It's about the size of a grapefruit, is green an has several little sections that you pull apart.  Each little piece has white meat and a black seed in the middle?  Do you have any idea what I am talking about?

2. Also, my next question is.... Do you have any special tips on growing a persian lime tree?

Thank you so much,
Trudy

Answer
I think I know your plant.  There is a tropical fruit called custard apple or sugar apple.  Its latin name is Annona squamosa which may be the origin of "Anon".  The following is a description of Annona squamosa, read it and hopefully you will be able to tell if it is your plant.

Grown in tropical regions of Africa, Asia and the Americas.  Flowers are pale green and have a pleasant scent.  Fruit are large and have a custard like texture.   flowers emerge on old wood on short stalks.  Fruit are made of many fused segments and covered with a tough green or brown skin.  Fruit flesh is pulpy white and contains many brown or black seeds.  Hope this sounds like your plant.

About the lime tree ... well being out of zone I've never tried to grow one, but I can tell you that like most citrus they need well drained soil and should be planted in full sun for best results.

Hope this helps.
