Question
I have 2 or 3 different kinds of vines invading over a wood and wire fence that separates my lawn from a wooded section of my (newly purchased) property.  People have told me the vines are honeysuckle, grape ivy, and English ivy, among other names.

What would be a good way to manage these vines, to either eliminate them or at least keep them under control: some of the main stems are 3-4 inches across!  Shovel, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, or ?

Hi Martin,

If your goal is to get rid of them simply buy a container of weed and brush killer and apply according to label directions. Brush killers work best when the plants are in active growth.More than one appplication may be needed.

Once the vines are dead cut them down and try and dig out as many roots as possible. If they are very thick you will probably need a saw. There is no easy way to do this.

Since these vines are unattractive it probably would be best if you removed them rather then spending a lot of time trying to keep them under control.
