Questionwe have a violet that i have repotted three times and all looks great, good blooms and leaves. We water from the bottom of the pot but I notice the soil is hard on the surface. The plant is still in bloom. Can I replant now or should I wait till blooms are gone? The leaves are 13" across and the pot is 6". Should I reduce the pot size even though the plant is doing great? its been about 5 months since last repotting. TNX IN ADVANCE Junior Green Thumb
AnswerI would suggest waiting until the present blooms fade to repot. In fact, I don't recommend repotting violets all that often. I only do it every couple of years! I hate interfering with their root systems. Instead, I add fresh soil to the top and work it into the top layer about once a year, this is called "top dressing". Violets like to be watered from the bottom, but since the soil is dry on top you should give it a drink from the top, too. Violets love to be moist, warm, humid and in bright light, but not direct sun.
Hope I've helped answer your question.
