QuestionHello: I tried raising african violets in the past and I tend to kill them with kindness. I thought I would try to do it again. If anyone could tell me some pointers, and also information about free african violet lover groups I wuld greatly appreciate it. I just purchased one today. It is a deep purple with a lot of buds on it. Please write back and let me know. Sincerely, Judy
AnswerJudy,
The main thing to remember about violets is they they have to have three things:
SUNLIGHT
MOISTURE
WARMTH
Never let them dry out. Sunlight directly is OK in wintertime, but in summer or spring make sure it is filtered through a sheer curtain, or at an angle, maybe though a southeast window. They cannot tolerate cold.
Of course, these are just the very basics. I'm giving you the website for the African Violet Society of America, which is excellent. They offer so much info, for beginners as well as experienced growers. They also take questions free of charge.

However, never hesitate to send me a question if you need to.
I wish you luck with these beautiful plants.
